We are pleased to announce our new schedule of fantastic IT courses at the Fashion and Textile Museum, covering skills for fashion designers in a range of industry standard software packages.

For beginners we offer introductory courses while even experienced users could benefit from our advanced level, industry-specific courses.

Tuition is in small groups and our friendly expert tutors are happy to focus on your particular requirements. Classes take place in our purpose built IT suite, equipped with up-to-date computers and software and located within the inspirational confines of the museum.

Adobe Photoshop

Learn the basics of the ubiquitous image editing package with our Photoshop Introduction course; progress with the Intermediate and Advanced level courses; or gain some advanced industry specific skills with Repeat Pattern and Fashion Portfolio. Full schedule.

Learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to create presentational materials, fashion/textile designs and illustrations with our Introduction and Repeat Pattern courses. Full schedule.

Our courses offer unrivalled value at just £120 per course.

Courses are running throughout autumn/winter and incorporate 15 hours tuition either on Saturdays, weekday evenings or as 3 day intensive courses.

Book more than one course - e.g. an introductory and an advanced level course - and get a discount: Book 2 courses at the same time for £220 (£20 discount) or 3 courses at the same time for £300 (£60 discount).

Learn the lost art of making repairs and alterations to your clothes with this four week course.

Tuesday evenings from 7th September / 6.30pm - 9pm

Do you know how to take up a pair of trousers or alter something that doesn't quite fit?

These invaluable skills, which many of our parents had, are slowly dying out. If you lack the know-how but would like to learn to make repairs and alterations with confidence, then this course is for you.

Horrockses Exhibition Now Open!

The new Horrockses exhibition at The Fashion and Textile Museum is now open! This brand new exhibition is displaying fashions from the 40's and 50's in celebration of one of the most respected ready-to-wear labels of the twentieth century.

The exhibition will be running from July 9th to the 24th October

Opening times are Wednesday - Sunday, 11Am - 6PM. Last entry at 5:15PM

Ticket prices are £6.50 for adults, £3.50 for students and concessions, free entry for under 12s

FTM joins in London 2010 Open Weekend with Happening Hankies

Sat/Sun 24-25 July / Drop in between 2pm and 4pm


The FTM is challenging visitors of all ages to come along to the museum, get creative and make their own design and print. It will then be printed onto a white handkerchief which can be kept as a memento of their achievement.

FTM staff will be on hand to support and encourage those who have no experience of design or print or teach those with some experience more advanced techniques.

Get creative this summer

If you fancy doing more than just flopping on a beach and want to learn something new this summer, we are running two great summer school courses. Handbag design (16-20 August) and Designing Shoes (23-27 August) are run by some of the best people in the business. Each five-day course is good value at £195 each or if you book both get a great discount and pay only £300.
